1. Placement of the Implant
In the first stage, a titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. This procedure involves making a small incision in the gum to insert the screw-like implant. If multiple implants are needed, they can often be placed during the same appointment. After the implants are placed, the gums are sutured to promote healing.
2. Healing & Osseointegration
The healing process, called osseointegration, takes approximately 3 to 6 months. During this time, the jawbone grows and fuses around the implant, ensuring it becomes a stable foundation for your new tooth. Temporary crowns can be provided during this period, allowing you to speak, eat, and smile with confidence while the implant heals.
3. Placement of the Abutment
Once the implant has fully healed, an abutment is attached to the implant. The abutment acts as a connector, supporting the final restoration. At this point, an impression is taken to create your permanent crown.
4. Crown Fabrication & Final Placement
Depending on the practice, the crown may be crafted in an onsite lab or sent to an external lab for fabrication. When your custom restoration is ready, you will return to our office to have it securely attached to the abutment. After a brief adjustment period, your implant will feel just like a natural tooth, blending seamlessly into your smile.
